7/10 is 4/20 for Concentrate Connoisseurs

For old-school cannabis consumers, the wide variety of cannabis products available today can be difficult to choose from. It’s not just “brick weed” anymore—now, there’s vape pens, THC-infused beverages, edibles, and so much more. On July 10th, we celebrate “710 Day” and elevate a whole new category of product: Concentrates.

WHAT IS 710 DAY?

710 Day is named after a slang term for cannabis concentrates (also known as “dabs”). Even if you’ve never heard of these terms, you may be familiar with wax, shatter, kief, or live resin. Those are all different forms of cannabis concentrate. As cannabis lovers begin to move towards higher-potency products, dabs have gained a lot of popularity,

The meaning of 710 originated when enterprising cannabis sellers realized that it spells the word “OIL” when flipped upside down. Like 420, the term caught on and quickly became a holiday. No one knows for sure when the holiday began to gain traction, but it may have been around 2012, making this a recent development.

HOW DO I USE DAB RIGS?

To consume cannabis concentrates, the product needs to be vaporized. It’s possible to smoke kief, but dense concentrates like honey oil or rosin require the use of a dab rig.

A dab rig is similar to a bong, but has a nail that must be superheated. Once the nail is heated to 350-400 degrees Fahrenheit, a very small amount of cannabis concentrate is placed on the end, vaporized, and inhaled. Recent innovations such as easy-to-use electric dab rigs and dab pens have made the use of cannabis concentrate more popular.

WHEN SHOULD I DAB?

The high concentration of THC in dabs makes them very effective. Because of their strength, driving a car or doing any potentially dangerous activities is not a good idea. Before trying out dabs, make sure you’re somewhere comfortable and safe. You can enhance your experience by going for a scenic hike or a walk on the beach.
