The year 2016 was a great year for cannabis aficionados throughout California. Sale and delivery of retail weed became legal throughout the state after Proposition 64 was passed with a healthy 57% voter approval.

In the following article, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about cannabis delivery in Orange County. We’ll explain how weed gets delivered to your home, and tell you where to find first-rate weed delivery in California. Read on to learn more.

In what states is weed delivery legal?

As of 2019, a total of 33 states have legalized medical marijuana use. 10 of them have gone the extra step and legalized recreational use as well, and California is one of them. As long as you’re a legal adult, or you’re 18-20 years old with a doctor’s prescription, you can legally buy retail cannabis.

Up until a few months ago, the law required each individual county to issue a countywide permit allowing marijuana delivery services. With the passing of new regulations in January, California became the only state to fully allow statewide weed delivery.

Marijuana deliveries are conducted according to strict rules. For one, weed can only be transported by licensed dispensary employees. All deliveries are conducted via a designated motor vehicle, and the cannabis has to be placed in plain packaging.

The buyer must have a valid identification on their person, just as if they were buying at the dispensary. This is so that the dispensary employee can confirm their identity and legal adulthood. The delivery itself is governed by a number of important regulations.

These regulations include:

  • Cannabis deliveries can arrive only at physical addresses in California.
  • Deliveries aren’t allowed at public spaces, properties leased by public agencies, or areas where minors congregate (preschool, kindergarten, etc.).
  • All weed deliveries must be conducted in person.
  • Marijuana cannot be delivered via a slide-out tray or through a pass-out window on the exterior of a building.
  • You can’t receive a cannabis delivery while you’re sitting inside a vehicle.
  • All marijuana deliveries and sales in California are only legal between 6:00am and 10:00pm Pacific Time.

What are marijuana delivery services supposed to do with new law?

Although a recent ruling has removed the need for counties to issue specialized permits that greenlight cannabis delivery, this is not to say that delivering weed is as easy as delivering, for example, a pizza.

As mentioned earlier, there are a number of regulations that govern how the deliveries are performed. In addition to that, before it can even offer a delivery service, a dispensary must obtain a special permit that allows it to conduct marijuana deliveries.

The good news is, you as a customer don’t have to worry about any of that. Just get your cannabis from your preferred dispensary, and enjoy the full benefits of recreational or medicinal marijuana at your leisure.
