Cooking with Cannabis 101

March 2, 2020

Marijuana is one of the most versatile plants on Earth. It has both medicinal and recreational properties, it can be consumed in a huge number of different ways, and its five-leaved likeness has long been a symbol for free spirits everywhere.

One of ganja’s most famous properties is its ability to be turned into a variety of extremely tasty marijuana edibles that can induce long-lasting highs. If you live in California, you can even call your preferred marijuana delivery service in Orange County and have these edibles brought straight to your doorstep.

But what if you want to make your own cannabis edibles? In that case, we got you covered! Read on to learn how to cook with weed.

What is cannabutter?

Cannabutter is THC-infused butter. It’s the main ingredient in all kinds of different marijuana edibles. If you don’t want to use animal products for whatever reason, you can simply replace butter with milk-free margarine.

How to make cannabutter:

Step #1: decarboxylate your marijuana

Thoroughly ground the ganja and spread it on a cookie sheet, then cook it at 220 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes.

Step #2: infuse the butter

Put the decarboxylated weed and some butter into a heatproof jar. Place the jar in a pot half-filled with hot water, and leave it on low heat for 4 hours.

Step #3: extract the cannabutter

Put an extra-fine strainer (a pantyhose will do if you don’t have a strainer) on another jar and empty the contents of the heat-proof jar on the strainer. This will separate the THC-infused molten butter from the ground leaves. Throw away the leaves and use the THC-infused butter as a cooking ingredient.

How do I make marijuana cookies?

Cannabis-infused cookies are famous for their ability to induce a unique high that can last many hours and have a profoundly pleasant effect. Now that you’ve made your cannabutter, you can use it to prepare many different types of cookies.

Weed-infused chocolate chip cookies recipe:

  • Mix 1/3 cup of flour, 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and put them in a mixing bowl. Place the dry mix aside,
  • Mix 1/2 cup of cannabutter, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, and 2/3 cup of packed brown sugar. Cream them together to make them fluffy,
  • Add an egg and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the sugar and cannabutter. Thoroughly mix them together using a hand mixer,
  • Evenly combine 1 and 1/3 cups of chocolate chips with the liquid ingredients,
  • Mix the liquid ingredients with the salt, flour, and baking soda until they turn into dough. Shape this dough into cookies,
  • Bake smaller cookies for ten minutes or so at 375 degrees. Larger cookies can be baked at 325 degrees for about 20 minutes.

That’s it. Once the cookies have cooled, you can enjoy your very own homemade marijuana edibles. Just remember that they’re still subject to cannabis-use laws. So, don’t even think about eating them and driving, or consuming them on public property such as the Anaheim Convention Center.
