Legal Limit Of Cannabis Purchases In Orange County

By May 31, 2019May 12th, 2022No Comments

HOW MUCH MARIJUANA CAN CALIFORNIANS BUY?

The first question that those new to the concept of weed dispensaries usually ask is probably “what’s a good recreational marijuana store near me open now?” We’re pretty sure we know the answer (ahem), but it’s an understandable thing to wonder about. Once cannabis newbies get that answer sorted, though, there’s a more important question: “How much weed can I actually buy?

Thanks to the passage of Proposition 64, the sale and use of recreational cannabis is legal in California. However, there are still many regulations and laws that govern how cannabis is sold, who can buy it, and what types of weed can be sold.

We’d like to go through how to approach some of these regulations in order to get the most out of your marijuana shopping and using experience. Let’s get to it.

How Much Cannabis Can I legally have?

So, how much weed can you carry in California? The passage of the Adult Use of Marijuana Act, Proposition 64, established that up to 8 grams of marijuana concentrates is the legal limit for recreational weed possession for adults who are 21 years old or older. In addition to this, legal adults are permitted to have up to 28.5 grams of marijuana flower, and up to six living marijuana plants within their private residence.

This doesn’t just apply to possession of marijuana—it also applies to purchases. You are allowed to buy up to 28.5 grams of marijuana flower from a cannabis store in one day (or up to 8 grams of concentrate).

Can I Carry Cannabis Around With Me?

The legal limit for marijuana possession is the same as the purchase limit—28.5 grams, or just over one ounce. You can carry the legally allowed amount of cannabis on your person (meaning up to 8 grams of weed concentrate or 28.5 grams of flower). However, the marijuana products must be packed in a neutral package that doesn’t reveal what’s inside to the public.

This also means that you can’t consume marijuana products in public. This may seem restrictive, but similarly, California doesn’t allow you to consume tobacco or alcohol, either. Everyone dreams of spending a warm day smoking weed on the beaches that are open in Orange County (such as the San Clemente beaches), but unfortunately, this will have to remain a dream for now.

WHERE CAN I BUY CANNABIS?

If you’re 21+ years old, or an 18-20 year-old individual who has a doctor’s prescription for medical marijuana, you can legally buy medicinal and recreational weed products at any cannabis dispensary in California.

Things you should look for when choosing a weed store include:

  • A team of polite, experienced, and knowledgeable budtenders (like our cannabis Guides) who can answer any questions that you may have and help guide you through the buying process.
  • It should have a large catalog of available cannabis products that are designed to fit every need, lifestyle, and situation.
  • It should offer top-notch marijuana delivery services that can bring weed to you quickly, reliably, and at a competitive price.
  • They should have a modern website equipped with a comprehensive online catalog, as well as a blog full of useful and interesting information about weed in California.

What Do I Need to Bring?

“When I go to a dispensary near me to get cannabis, what should I consider?”

If this sounds like your internal monologue, you’re not alone. “When I was trying to find some good weed shops near me,” says Michael, a regular visitor of People’s, “I had no idea where to start. I thought I needed to get a medicinal marijuana prescription before I even came through the doors. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I could just go in with my driver’s license.”

As Michael quickly learned,  you only need an ID to go inside an open dispensary nearby your location and purchase your products — you just have to make sure that it has a picture and hasn’t expired.

Your ID doesn’t have to be issued by the state of California, but it must include a photograph. Any valid state ID, driver’s license, or passport (if you’re a foreign citizen visiting the US) will do as long as it can prove your identity and that you’re 21 or more years old.
